Last night Dave & I watched Studio Ghibli's latest movie, Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea (崖の上のポニョ). (He got it online; it hasn't been released outside of Japan yet.) IT'S SO CUTE.

Completely reinforces my undying love for Studio Ghibli & in particular Hayao Miyazaki. This movie reminds me a lot of Totoro -- which, if you know me well, you know is only my absolute #1 most favorite movie of ALL time. I have to watch it again, but I think it's going to creep up near the top of my favorites of the Ghibli movies -- currently, my favorites are ranked:

1. Totoro
2. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
3. Castle in the Sky
4. Spirited Away

I can see it overtaking Laputa (Castle in the Sky). Dave's gonna get me the 2009 Ponyo weekly planner! I practically can't wait for 2009 to start so I can start using it... haha.

I haven't seen most of Miyazaki's stuff, but I absolutely love love love Laputa, and I hated Nausicaa with a passion. I still haven't seen that one that came out a few years ago. I should watch a bunch of them at some point.

No way, you hated Nausicaa?? But, but, but, but... it's so good! ..... Well, I hated Mononoke-hime, which a lot of my friends LOVE; I think I should watch it again now that it's been more than 5 years & see how my opinion of it has changed since seeing so many of his other works.
